This program is designed at expanding the Oxford breed within the state of Iowa. Many Oxford breeders within the sate of Iowa have retired over the past several years, and this program is aimed at attracting newcomers to the breed within the state. Iowa is rich with Oxford tradition and we want to see that continue.
Thus far, sheep donations have been made from Double "O" Acres, Charles Lillybridge and Tweed Croft Oxfords. We are hoping to get more sheep donations in the future. The sheep being donated can range in age from ewe lambs to bred ewes. The winner will receive the Oxford ewes at the Iowa State Fair in August where the sheep will be entered in the recipients name. We would expect the winner to make the annual trip to the state fair and to show their Oxfords at the local county fair level.
Double "O" Acres and Tweed Croft Oxfords have graciously decided that they will allow the recipients to breed their ewes the first breeding year at no charge when they are yearlings. The recipient would be expected to sustain their flock from there on out. However, both farms are committed to selling these winners sheep at affordable prices to help them establish an enduring flock.
Qualifications:
You must be a 4-H'er or FFA student, or at least a family with children and live within the state of Iowa.
Guidelines
Please submit an essay to Justin O'Brien by June 1st. This allows for enough time to enter sheep at the state fair in recipients name. Essays will be discussed amongst sheep donars.
